Fall 2014 Park Manager's Message

Hi All,

Some of you have been concerned about the manatee visibility this time of year during the advertised manatee programs and made some excellent suggestions. You will see some new signage go up soon explaining the situation with the gate being raised and the resident manatee being in their winter area. Also, during the feeding portion of the program, please remember that the manatee need to stay in the water to stay warm. If feeding them on the beach requires them to become exposed to the colder winter air, please do not do this. If the water is deep and they can easily come up to the beach to be seen while staying submerged this is fine. Make sure to check with the Ranger on Duty for guidance here. Remember the health of the wildlife at the park is our primary concern.
As always, thanks for your questions and input.
Kim
